I can not for the life of me figure out how to lower the spare tire. The manual says to use the hook end and turn, but there is nothing there to hook on to. I have played with this for a hour and it still feels like I am putting a square peg into a round hole. The crank mechanism that lowers the spare has a large flat tab on it that you have to get into that U. Once you get it in there just start cranking counter clockwise. Its not the easiest system but does prevent your spare from being ripped off. Just hope we never have to get the spare off in a storm.
