With Stewart and company in a Toyota next year as well as all these Indy Series drivers on the way,tell me how you feel about this.What impact will JGR moving to Toyota and the increasing number of open-wheel drivers have on the 2008 season?I think Toyota's programs will all step up with the addition of JGR to the fold. As far as the open wheelers go, Juan Pablo will continue to improve. Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon will also figure out what they have to do to improve over this past season. JJ Yeley may or may not respond to being on a new team by showing some improvement. Dave Blaney and Ryan Newman showed some really good stuff toward the end of the season, and they will show that they are very competitive next year. Kasey Kahne and the entire Gillet-Everham team need to figure what they did wrong this past season. As for the newer open wheel guys, Franchitti, Villeneuve, Carpentier, and Hornish, Jr go, they will be in their rookie/learning phase and won't make any kind of impact until near the end of the season. Did I cover all the open wheelers? I'm not sure if short track off-road racing counts as "open wheel," but it is a lot like the sprint car races, except for the jumps. If you want to count that as open wheel, then we know that Jimmie Johnson will be going for three in a row.

JGR will be much like they were this season, up and down and not quite in the same league as Hendrick or Roush.

As a Toyota owner, I am happy to see the manufacturer in the sport. The alliance with JGR will greatly enhance their standing in 2008. JGR drivers WILL NOT miss a beat in 2008, but like dalejr.4ever says it will be hellacious in the shop at JGR. I actually expect bigger problems between Shrub and Hamlin.

As for the open wheelers, it's like this: their rough adjustment shows you that driving a NASCAR ride isn't as easy as it looks. I could see Hornish getting the hang of it, and maybe Franchitti. I'm rooting for Villanueve, but I'm not sure Bill Davis is competitive enough and I have no expectations for Carpentier. I look for JPM to continue his ascent up the NASCAR ladder.
I think that the Gibbs guys will have an adjustment period to get used to Toyota. How long it will take? Who knows. As for the open wheelers I just hope that they don't cause a lot of wrecks while "learning" like Montoya did. toyota should get their first win but it will still be hendrick motorsports.
Not quite sure the outcome of Toyota with Gibbs, but SMOKE has been approached by JGR to extend his contract and doesn't want to deal with it right now?????
The whole JGR organization will definitely struggle. I dont think the Toyotas are as well developed and dont have as many stats and races run to have a great impact on a race. We will see how well they run in testing in January, and then the duels, and then the shootout, and the actual race. I also feel that the open wheel drivers will struggle and then others will take off. I think some of them will realize this isnt the sport for them and leave and then others will struggle to run well and qualify well or even make the races. I also think that alot of good drivers that have been running in NASCAR for a while will be going home due to the open wheel guys.
