Why are Mercedes cars expensive? What makes them different than say a Toyota model?

I'm just starting to drive and I'm just curious as to why cars are more epxensive than others.

Why is a mercedes like 90,000 dollars when a toyota is about 6,000? What makes them different? Please explain.

It's basically the name(brand) of the car, Mercedes has a good reputation and is manufactured in Germany as Toyota in Japan because it is a Japanese.



Toyota is a lower grade car and doesn't have that good of a reputation. They're not half bad, but i would personally choose the Mercedes

Have you shopped for a new Toyota lately? The last time you could buy a brand new Toyota for $6000 was sometime back in 1980's. The least expensive Toyota model today is the Yaris which starts at just over $13,000 (and that is before you add any options, freight, tax, etc.)



If you want to make a fair price comparison, you should not be comparing a Benz to a Toyota but rather to a Lexus (the luxury arm of Toyota). You will then notice that vehicle prices are much more similar.



Are luxury cars worth it? You can argue that both ways. On one hand, no new car is worth the money because you know when you buy it that it is a depreciating asset. In other words, as soon as you drive if off the lot, the resale value of the car drops.

On the other hand, a luxury vehicle, while more expensive, does buy you not only a more comfortable vehicle, but also one packaged with more technologies, including safety items (ABS brakes, traction control, and air bags are each examples of this).
