What is the best kind of brush guard for a Toyota Tacoma?

I have a 2005 Toyota Tacoma and would like to get a set of bumper/grill guards for it. I would like one for the front and the back, preferably a matching set (black finish). I don't want it just for looks though. They have to be strong, as I will most likely be using them, whether I want to or not. Any tips? What is the best kind of brush guard for a Toyota Tacoma? It really depends on your use of the truck. If you off-road drive, many brush guards reduce clearance and approach angle in the front causing your truck to drag and hang up on things that it wouldn't if it didn't have the brush guard. A friend of mine had a full front brush/grille guard on this truck for a Moab trip. The lower mounting arms of it hit so many of the rocks and kept getting him stuck--we finally took the whole thing off and threw it in the bed. Many of the guards are more cosmetic than useful. They also add weight, reducing your truck's capability and fuel economy.

If you want to better protection for the truck without harming its ability, look to replacement bumpers from off-road shops or custom fabricators such as all-pro off-road, poison spyder, etc. They replace the factory bumpers, are very strong, and usually INCREASE clearance under the front and back ends due to their design. Also decide if you'd like to mount a winch at some point--many of these bumpers are winch-ready, or can be ordered that way.
