That should tell you more then enough about it. Almost all speedometers are off by a certain amount. There are regulations that say the speedo cannot read lower than you are actually going no matter what. There are so many factors that come into play that make it not economical to make the speedometer accurate in any car. This is why most car makers just make it read 5% or so higher then you're really going. If you have a handheld gps device you can usually get an accurate reading of what your actually speed is. In Japanese and European cars the speedometers are especially far off because it is common for people to put new wheels on these cars which will effect the speedometer reading. I drive a BMW M3 and my speedometer has about a 10% error. When it says I'm going top speed (184mph), I'm actually only going about 166mph.How Accurate Is Ninth Generation Toyota Corolla's Speedometer?
The speedometer is accurate to I 1-2 MPH. I heard that the margin of error for tickets is 10%. This may be off so check. How Accurate Is Ninth Generation Toyota Corolla's Speedometer? Its 97kph
