How do you manage the need of sudden acceleration on Toyota Prius?

I am planning to buy a Toyota Prius, but after the test drive yesterday I am so disappointed by the acceleration. I was trying to get on the service road but vehicles were exiting at 60-70 mph from the exit just behind where I was and I couldn't even get on the service road for 10 minutes because I was scared out of my mind. Prius owners please help me decide how do you manage the need of sudden acceleration while changing lanes or turning right when a vehicle is approaching you fast. How do you manage the need of sudden acceleration on Toyota Prius?I have a Honda with 72 HP and never have that problem.Give up the need to keep up with the big dogs. What was your previous muscle car and how much of a swinging richard do you consider yourself?I drive a hybrid sometimes and never have that problem.Your potency makes me humble just keep those blue pills a secret.

Hybrid drivers are passing in the left lane so they have a psychological need to be superior. They want to display green cred at the stoplight posedown and also be Conan the Barbarian during the commando mission to buy a bag of diapers. No difference between childish competition with green and childish competition with ghetto. How do you manage the need of sudden acceleration on Toyota Prius?
My guess is that you let the engine sound stop your foot from pressing the pedal. Unlike an old fashioned car, the RPM of the engine is only loosely coupled to the vehicle speed. Many people are used to driving by ear and when the engine sounds about right they back off. This is the wrong strategy with the Prius because the accelerator pedal tells the computer how much power the driver is asking for. In the Prius you don't worry about the sound because the computer will not let you over-rev the engine.

The other thing that fools people is there is no low-gear jerk because the Prius never shifts gears so it's smooth acceleration. The ~195 ft.lbs of torque that the large motor/generator provides gives quite a nice acceleration--if you allow it to do so.

Take the test drive again and then press the pedal to the metal and leave it there. You'll be surprised at how quickly you get up to speed. How do you manage the need of sudden acceleration on Toyota Prius? The problem is literally all inside your head. Legions of much slower cars do it safely all the time. Watch the traffic long enough to get a feel for your best shot then go. As long as approaching cars are able to adjust they will.

Here is the deal: the critical issue is whether the oncoming car can adjust to you pulling out, and acceleration has nothing to do with that. By the time you start accelerating the whole encounter has been decided. You aren't outrunning oncoming traffic, you are joining it.
That's the downside of "driving green". There is NO sudden acceleration. Use city streets. Plan way ahead if you want to get on and off the freeway and do like the rest of them do when making right turns, don't worry about getting rear ended for cutting someone off. Remember the one who hits you from the rear has to pay no matter how slow you're puttering along. If you want to drive and stay with traffic then buy something else. How do you manage the need of sudden acceleration on Toyota Prius?I have to agree with Michael. The electric motor will give you 100% of the available torque from a standing start - something now gas or diesel engine will. We drive the freeway 120+ miles each day with 6 ramp accelerations and find we have to slow down for cars ahead of us. Never been a problem.

Push that pedal down to the floor!

I guess they plan way ahead or don't take freeways, But you could always buy a VW Jetta TDI, cheaper, faster, more powerful, and just as or even more green.
well if u r not happy with default toyota prius acceleration then u might have to upgrade it. consult a proper dealer who performs modifications. take care as its ur new car, take only the right advise. How do you manage the need of sudden acceleration on Toyota Prius?
Get a diesel sedan instead, better torque, more power, better mileage.
